Mobility is a fundamental tool to drive progress in society. At the Repsol Technology Lab, we are working on creating new fuels and developing new forms of energy and new models of urban and non-urban mobility, which will allow us to meet the rising demand for transportation with greater sustainability and efficiency.

Environmentally-friendly synthetic fuels

We are working on producing zero footprint fuels using only water and CO2 as the raw materials, which can be used in any vehicle today, including cars, trucks, planes, among others, without the need to adapt their infrastructures.

Using innovation to improve electric vehicles

The battery will play a key role in electric mobility in the coming years. At the Repsol Technology Lab, we are developing the next generation of batteries to be safer and cheaper and to hold more energy than today's batteries. We also developed a new range of fluids specifically for hybrid and electric vehicles to ensure the best lubrication and cooling of their main components.

Advanced fuels

With sustainability as a priority, we are working on new products to extend the engine's premiere performance and reduce consumption, therefore lowering its carbon footprint. An example is the high-end Repsol Efitec 100 Neotech fuel, inspired by competition, which allows for a more than 18% reduction in consumption and CO2 emissions in engines optimized for its use.

Efficient lubricants

We develop new lubricants that, given their lower viscosity and formulation with increasingly more sophisticated technologies, contribute to an improvement in engine efficiency by consuming less fuel, and therefore, reducing CO2 emissions.

AutoGas, a sustainable reality for the future

AutoGas is the most widely-used alternative fuel in the world and one of the most sustainable options on the market for mobility, given its combustion that hardly generates any particles and complies with the most stringent emission limits, leading to a 15% reduction in CO2 emissions to the atmosphere compared with gasoline vehicles. We are working to ensure that this alternative fuel can be used in all types of vehicles, regardless of their size, in order to reduce their environmental impact and the transport sector's carbon footprint.

Minimizing the environmental impact of ship transport

We are seeking solutions to improve the sustainability of maritime mobility. For this, we not only work on the formulation of low-sulfur fuel oils but also on the continuous improvement of the overall quality of the final products in order to adapt them to different engines and operating conditions in marine environments, just as we adapt our lubricants to the new operating conditions.

From the race track to the streets

Our participation in MotoGP allows us to put our products to the test under the most adverse and demanding conditions, and then apply that knowledge acquired in high-performance racing to the products we market in our service stations. Repsol Efitec 100 Neotech is an example of how our scientists at the Repsol Technology Lab have been able to bring the fuels and lubricants from the racing world to the general public.

Through our investment fund Repsol Corporate Venturing, we seek out, support, and join forces with small and large businesses that share our vision of mobility and who agree that together we can go farther.

    Automating the exchange of batteries

    In line with our slogan "electric cars for all", we seek to find a solution to the challenge of electric vehicle recharging through robotization and smart batteries. A pioneering recharge system has been developed in this field which enables complete recharging in just minutes.

    Using telemetry techniques like in Formula 1 and MotoGP racing, this participatory platform uses an app to analyze driver and car data in order to improve driving and safety, and even creates a driving certificate that is recognized and highly-regarded by more organizations each day.

    One possible solution for the future of mobility may mean not only sharing vehicles but also parking spaces. WeSmartPart is a platform that allows for sharing of private parking spaces between many users in cities all over the world.

    Begas Motor brings alternative fuel solutions to the freight and public urban transportation sectors. The company is focused on developing an engine for industrial vehicles that will that will provide the market and eco-friendly, affordable, and efficient solution.
