Developing environmentally-friendly products with air quality in mind

We are aware of how important it is to care about air quality, so we work on supplying society products that are increasingly more sustainable and develop initiatives aimed at minimizing emissions released by our production processes.
It's important to distinguish between the air quality problem, the local problem, and climate change, which is a global phenomenon. Air quality is affected by the concentration of pollutants caused by burning processes, and it's determined by the energy mix, the size and density of populations, weather conditions, among others. Air quality management depends mainly on the sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions, nitrogen oxides (NOx), and particles.

Driving sustainability in transportation and the household sector

  • We produce low-sulfur fuels and diesels with a low aromatic compound content, which results in a significant reduction of volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions into the atmosphere.
  • We work with cutting-edge collaborative platforms such as WeSmartPark and DriveSmart in developing digital mobility tools.
  • We also take part in other alternatives that promote electric mobility in cities: we promote along with the Basque Energy Board (EVE), IBIL, an electric vehicle charging company, and also have a stake in the Scutum electric scooter project.
  • We are also committed to AutoGas, an environmentally friendly fuel, as it reduces vehicle emissions in comparison to other fuels.
  • We market the AdBlue® product under our Blue+ brand, with more 320 points of sale. AdBlue is a urea solution that reacts with the exhaust fumes of diesel vehicles with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology and converts nitrogen oxides into compounds that are harmless for the atmosphere and the environment (nitrogen and water vapor).
  • In the household sector, we supply a heating diesel (BiEnergy e+10) designed for next-generation boilers, which makes it possible to reduce NOx emissions by an average of 30% and practically reduces all CO and SO2 particle emissions.

Minimizing emissions from our operations

We implement the latest technology and apply the most stringent standards to reduce emissions into the atmosphere wherever we operate.

  • At our industrial complexes, we use natural gas a a fuel to supply the energy required by our processes, thus avoiding using fuels that when burned generate SO2 and particles.
  • We reduce nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx) from energy generation activities by adopting new technologies and controlling the operating conditions, specially in the combustion equipment of our major industrial complexes.
  • We reduce our volatile organic compound (COV) emission with steam recovery and leak detection and repair (LDAR) technology.
