Our 10 Basic Safety Rules

We rate safety on a scale of ten to zero. There are 10 Basic Safety Rules that we follow to make our everyday lives safer, and these guidelines are fundamental pillars for us to achieve our goal of zero accidents.

The 10 Basic Safety Rules help us to prevent people from having accidents while performing our operations. All our employees and contractors must follow them.

We constantly promote these rules through publicity campaigns and training materials that are freely available for all of our employees, partners, and contractors. We even have a specific website for this purpose.

  • Employees

    We emphasize the importance of improving the Safety Culture to support decision-making at each level of the company. Regardless of their post or geographical location, all Repsol employees are responsible for their safety and for contributing to the safety of the people around us.

    We inform and involve the company's employees in the assessment of risks and impacts, and the associated controls prior to undertaking any activity.

    Our activities are carried out with operational discipline by duly authorized and qualified professionals, fulfilling the plans and procedures defined for the activities and implementing corrective actions in a timely manner when deviations occur.

  • Contractors

The performance of our product and service suppliers is essential to achieve our company's objectives.

We establish the processes and tools for selecting, monitoring, reviewing, and improving the products and services delivered to our company. The Division of Procurement and Contracts is responsible for rating suppliers and contractors including safety criteria in the questionnaires and audits and evaluating their performance in terms of safety management.

  • Other stakeholders

We analyze matters of mutual interest or concern throughout the life cycle of the activities, services, and products.

We confirm that the company has clearly identified and communicated the relevant risks that must be known, addressed, and managed by the stakeholders.

We ensure that our company's products and services meet our customers' safety and environment expectations .

Safety and awareness training is essential

Safety training is one of the most effective actions for improving management and performance and preventing risk situations. Our main training programs are related to risk and incident management, safety leadership, driving, safety and transport of people, fire-fighting, and emergency plans.

Raising awareness among our contractors and suppliers is a basic pillar. We transmit our safety culture to them, ensuring that contractors who enter our facilities have the necessary safety training to carry out their work. We share good practices and procedures with contractors and give sensitization and awareness talks.

We launched a range of recognition campaigns for projects developed at the company, such as the 10 Basic Safety Rules, and recognize the contractor companies that carry out the best safety actions.

  • Our innovative training and awareness programs

We have set ourselves the objective of creating innovative tools and methodologies for our training programs that use the latest technology to facilitate learning. To achieve this, we have developed the following techniques:

  • Gamification :A highly effective way to promote learning is by incorporating games. Since 2015, we have been creating a whole host of resources ranging from simple board games to sophisticated online games for mobile devices, which allow us to use these techniques in both small centers and throughout the entire company.
  • Virtual reality : We have developed a pioneering virtual reality training program that allows our employees to experience the 10 Basic Safety Rules in a virtual environment. Over 7,000 employees and contractors have already tried out this original training technique.
